ORTHOּTABS®
Vitamin and Mineral Supplement for Bone Health
|
What
Is ORTHOּTABS?*
Introduced by MediNiche in 1997, ORTHO.TABS is the #1
recommended vitamin and mineral supplement recommended by
orthopedic surgeons to patients as part of a total care program
for bone health.
Developed in conjunction with orthopedic surgeons, ORTHO.TABS
contain key bone strengthening components such as calcium with
vitamins D and K, magnesium, manganese, and zinc, and
hematopoietic |
|
(blood building)
components folic acid, vitamin B12, copper and vitamin C.
Unlike most bone health supplements, each serving of ORTHO.TABS
contains 800 IU’s of vitamin D; an amount in line with growing
scientific support advocating increased amounts of vitamin D.
Each ORTHO.TABS tablet is coated with Opti-Sol™; a safe water
based tablet coating system. The Opti-Sol system allows the
tablet to dissolve rapidly in the body; making nutrients more
available for absorption. Many supplements contain
chemical-based tablet coatings that do not dissolve well and
therefore may pass through the body without being absorbed.
ORTHO.TABS is specifically designed for patients who may be at
risk of nutritional deficiencies as the result of poor diet
associated with surgery, rehabilitation, trauma, injury, disease
or age. Those that can benefit from ORTHO.TABS use include
pre-/post-surgical patients, osteoporosis prone patients, peri-
and post-menopausal women on biphosphonate therapy or HRT, young
women 13 – 35 years and athletes. |

Who Can Benefit From Taking ORTHOּTABS?*
Patients with osteoporosis or at risk for osteoporosis…ORTHOּTABS can help increase peak bone mass in young women and help to maintain bone mass in post-menopausal women, possibly reducing the risk for osteoporosis later in life. It is recommended that women taking bone building therapies such as such as Fosamax® or Evista®, also take supplemental calcium. To learn more about osteoporosis click here.
Patients undergoing orthopedic surgery…extra nutritional support is required during times of stress such as surgery or trauma. ORTHOּTABS prepare your body pre-operatively for the stress of surgery by boosting your nutritional status and help to meet the body’s increased nutritional needs during the post-operative period.
Patients recovering from a recent fracture…nutrition is one of the most important influences on fracture healing. Inadequate nutritional status can delay healing.
Pre, peri and postmenopausal women…calcium supplementation during pre-menopausal years appears to prevent bone loss, allowing women to enter menopause with greater bone mass which may reduce the risk of bone fractures later in life. Women who fail to receive adequate intakes of calcium and vitamin D can loose up to 5% of their bone mass during the first five years following menopause.
Young women 12-35 (peak bone building years)…it is of utmost importance that you receive adequate amounts of calcium during bone building years. Building your “bank” of bone when you are young may help decrease your risk for osteoporosis later in
life.
Elderly Patients…elderly people are often at increased risk for nutritional deficiencies due to a poor diet and a sedentary lifestyle. Many elderly live alone, avoid cooking and often times have a difficult time getting around.

Can
ORTHOּTABS be taken in addition to a general multivitamin multimineral supplement such as CENTRUM®
(Lederle) or ONE-A-DAY®
(Bayer)?
Yes. The ORTHOּTABS formulation was carefully developed to ensure that the amounts of all components were within a safe intake range
(NOAEL, LOAEL), even if taken with a general multivitamin multimineral supplement. There are vitamin and mineral components of
ORTHOּTABS that exceed the maximum Daily Value or RDA. However, as stated by the Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN), exceeding the maximum RDA in no way means that such overage amounts are unsafe. There is scientific evidence that in certain body metabolic and physiological processes there may be an increased need for vitamins and minerals to maintain tissues and cell integrity and growth.
